Training Log 8/21 – 8/24

9am – 10am

BMT in the morning!

10:30am – 11am

Yoga at GT.

Back home for half a day so I do a workout with my friend and head back to Tampa.

Rest Day

9am – 10am

BMT in the morning and it feels awesome.

I could barely sleep last night, but I got some coffee and I was very happy to be back with my hand wraps on. I had an amazing class. Warmed up with shadowboxing, as always, and our two punch series. Moved into a benavide line drill, which I like a lot. Finished up boxing with two rounds of combinations with Amy! Moved into kickboxing with our catch and correct drill. Worked on the dutch drill and front kick parrys which came out great and finished class with some simulated sparring. Really working our defense and combinations. My defense felt good, but I need to be more aware of my opponents movements and predicting what they will do less. My combinations felt good, only mistake picked out was over extending on my cross.

10:30am – 11am

I was going to go train BJJ, but I preferred to stay and watch Will’s private with Vince. He has amazing striking and their pad work together is awesome.  After watching that, I didn’t want to stop working out for the day so I went to Crunch for some cardio.

12pm – 1pm

50 minutes of shadowboxing, heavy bag work, running, and elliptical for me. Next workout will be 55 minutes.

Training Log 8/18 – 8/20

I apologize for grouping up these training logs recently, I have been at a lack of motivation and Wifi. I will definitely try my best to keep putting up one log a day, except for rest days.

10:30am – 11:15am

Cardio in the morning at Crunch Fitness. Got some shadowboxing, running, and work on the elliptical in.

8:30pm – 9:30pm

One of the best BMT classes I’ve had in a while.

Advanced class with coach Vince, Brad, Jessie,  and Tracy. Warmed up with two variations of our back em up drill. Hit a lot of combos today and worked a lot from southpaw. Leonard, London, and DKC. Finished up the class with some counter drills, working from slipping or parrying jab or cross. I really liked doing this. Only thing that might not have been so well today was my cardio, but I am working on after the nasty respiratory infection I had.

Showed up to GT this morning for some BJJ, but found it pretty much empty so I ditched that and went to do some cardio instead.

12:45pm – 1:30pm

Cardio at Crunch Fitness. Did a little shadowboxing and a lot of outdoor running. I really enjoy running and wish my feet and legs could handle it better. I am slowly increasing my duration spent running and I find I can run for longer without pain outside than on a treadmill.

9am – 10am

BMT in the morning, great class with coach Vince, Amy, Sparkle, Jay, and Casey.

Worked a lot of things today. We got two rounds of boxing combinations each back to back and also worked our back em up drill in a line. I still need a little work on this one to stay more balanced and throw all these punches with power as well. Worked the leonard and added the benavide at the end, definitely going to video that one in the future. Got in some rounds of kickboxing combinations and work on the awesome DKC combo. Finished up class with pyramids with 14 punches and 8 kicks!

10:30am – 11am

Exhausted after striking, but definitely wanted to get some bjj in. Show up to GT and it is packed! Apparently we have some guys from connecticut in town. Great training. Worked on a D’arce and anaconda for technique and then moved onto some rolls. Got an amazing roll with Gideon where we flowed and both worked new things. Rolled with Jay and did well, but wasn’t able to submit him, just stayed active and kept shooting up sweeps and attacks. Rolled with Angel which was a serious workout, but I felt really good and was definitely aggressive. Good bunch of rolling today, let’s get back at it tomorrow!

“Never dull your shine for anyone else”

Training Log 8/10 – 8/17

10:30am – 11:15am

Early morning cardio at Crunch Fitness. 15 minutes of shadowboxing, 15 minutes of running, 15 minutes on the elliptical. Great start to the day. The information diet is already very difficult. I find myself wanting to google a lot of things and unconsciously clicking my facebook and instagram app. This will be good for me!

6:30pm – 9pm

BMT at Gracie PAC!

Team up with Amy for the first half of class. We start off with a round of boxing combinations with rolls and slips. Move into the TJ which we play around with a few variations and the hands and footwork drill. Then we get ready for kickboxing. I work with Jessie for this part of class. Warm up with our knee line drill and get a round of knee combinations with rolls and slips as well. Move into my favorite, the dutch drill, and finish up class with pyramids. Great training, glad to be back into the swing of things!

I wasn’t planning on it, but I end up staying for BJJ with coach Dan Martinez. Fun class and always great to learn from a different person. We work a lot on passing open guard, with two variations of the marcelo pass. Finish up with some rolls. I am definitely a little rusty so need to work more on my bjj.

9am – 10am

BMT at Gracie PAC!

Good group of people to train with today even though I was partnered with Amy the whole time (and a short time with Matt). Warmed up with our two punch series, moved into the hands and footwork drill and a cross hook counter drill which I really liked. Finished up boxing with a round of combinations and got ready for kickboxing. Catch and correct drill to loosen our hips up and moved into a round of front to round kick combinations. Dutch drill and Souwer back to back, they both felt really good. Finished class with some strength and conditioning – 25 push ups, squats, sit ups and 10 burpees.

9am – 10am

Bang Muay Thai morning class!

Warmed up with our two punch series, I was paired up with a muay thai beast named Josh. Moved into our hands and footwork drill and some boxing combinations with rolls and slips added. Josh’s reach is very long and it is good for me to work slips and rolls against someone like him. We worked on our switch series and then moved onto kickboxing. Warmed up with our knee line drill and did a round of round kicks to knees combinations. Finished up class with the dutch drill and 14-8 pyramids!

10:30am – 11am

Was feeling really tired, but wanted to get a couple rolls in.

Showed up to GT and rolled for about 10 minutes with Brian, felt decent, but I was very distracted. Better luck for me next time.

My cutting off of social media and reading has been pretty tough, I haven’t been able to post my training logs or kill time like I usually do in the afternoon. On a positive note, I have been writing a lot more personal things in my spare time and it is pretty fun to let my mind wander and write stream of consciousness. I come up with some pretty good things. I will be going home tomorrow morning after training and am looking forward to seeing my family again!

9am – 10am

BMT in the morning! Focus mostly on the switch series, slip and rolls in combinations, and front to round kick combinations. Also hit the Souwer on video.

I ended my information fast early today because of some unexpected bad news. I am now going home to spend the rest of the weekend with my family.

8/14 – 8/15

Hit the gym both days, weight lifting for the first time in months. Hitting some squats, bench press, and deadlift, as well as a lot of ab work. Did a little cardio as well.

Driving back up to tampa and working at night, back to BMT tomorrow!

9am – 10am

BMT in the morning with coach Vince and Sparkle.

Warmed up with 2 rounds of boxing combinations back to back and then worked on our hands and footwork drill. For kickboxing, we worked on some knee combinations, the awesome dropback cross combo and leonard combo, and finished up with a round of thai style pad holding. I usually love this drill, but my right knuckle is utterly shattered and it hurts very badly to punch with my right hand. Working on that problem right now.

“There is neither happiness nor unhappiness in this world; there is only the comparison of one state with another. Only a man who has felt ultimate despair is capable of feeling ultimate bliss. It is necessary to have wished for death in order to know how good it is to live…..the sum of all human wisdom will be contained in these two words: Wait and Hope.”

Training Log 8/4 – 8/9

8/4 – 8/6

Bronchitis and a upper respiratory infection. Dead.

7:30am – 8am

Some shadowboxing and a mile run at crunch fitness. I am feeling better and just want to slowly get my lungs used to exercise again.

11:30am – 1:15pm

Fun BMT seminar at Gracie PAC.

Helped coach Vince teach a bunch of combos and other awesome drills to a big group of ninjas. I had a lot of fun, learned a lot, and was able to get back in the zone and start striking like a ninja again after a few weeks being either off or partially disabled.

Almost fully recovered from this past week of sickness. Excited to get back into the groove of things. I will be doing a low information diet this week (until Saturday). This means I will be using no social media, no reading, no watching videos or movies of any kind… Sounds pretty horrible, but let’s see how it goes!

“One must be careful of books, and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.”

Training Log 8/1 – 8/3

8/1 – 8/2

Resting for the weekend. Fasting on Sunday as usual.

9am – 10am

Definitely have some kind of laryngitis or some kind of throat infection preventing me from speaking and breathing correctly, so taking it somewhat light. First day of BMT at the new location, Gracie PAC!

Big morning class today, got warmed up with a round of number combinations. Moved onto our gallop line drill and some boxing combinations with slips. Got ready for kickboxing with our catch and correct drill and then some lines of walking round kicks and front kicks. Finished up class with a round of kickboxing combinations and some pyramids.

“What do you think that Hercules would have been if there had not been such a lion, and hydra, and stag, and boar, and certain unjust and bestial men, whom Hercules used to drive away and clear out? And what would he have been doing if there had been nothing of the kind? Is it not plain that he would have wrapped himself up and have slept? In the first place, then he would not have been a Hercules, when he was dreaming away all his life in such luxury and case; and even if he had been one what would have been the use of him? and what the use of his arms, and of the strength of the other parts of his body, and his endurance and noble spirit, if such circumstances and occasions had not roused and exercised him?”
